End-of-life doula training

Being with the dying is a professional skill and a forgotten human capacity.

The competence of listening

You learn to stay. You learn to listen without filling the silences. You learn to remain beside a pain you cannot take away. You may have a natural inclination for all of this.

Or you can cultivate it.

The method

The INELDA approach

Our work follows the approach of INELDA, the International End-of-Life Doula Association, built around three principles resting on deep, authentic listening.

Self-awareness

The doula knows her own ideas and fears about death, and learns to set them aside to make room for the person.

The dying process

Every death is unique. The doula knows the changes of body and heart in this time, and knows how to welcome them.

The autonomy of the dying

It is always the person who leads and shows the way. The doula follows with respect and care — she does not walk ahead.

First step

An education about death and the end-of-life process

The training gives the doula tools and methods. They are not recipes. They are possibilities, to be offered only when they make sense for that person, in that moment.

As non-medical companions, doulas have the opportunity to provide support embracing the emotional, physical and practical care of anyone, in any setting.

This training can serve the needs of anyone planning their own end, anyone who has received a terminal diagnosis or is facing imminent death, as well as those who have experienced a sudden loss.

During the training you will:

Explore your feelings about mortality and the end of life
Practise sharing cultural perspectives on death
Discover the current end-of-life options in your region
Practise listening as the foundation of care
Support every individual's self-determination
Understand the signs and symptoms of the dying process
Acquire basic knowledge about grief
Raise awareness of end-of-life themes in your communities

The next training will begin in 2027. Fill in the form to receive information and join the waiting list.
